On Charity Way in Modesto, Lodge #1282 has built something that's genuinely hard to find: a place where strangers become regulars inside of one visit. Members consistently call it one of the friendliest lodges they've ever walked into, and that reputation isn't accidental. It's the product of decades of intentional community-building, from weekly dinners to fundraising drives that put real money back into the Central Valley.

The lodge hosts a rotating calendar of events that keeps the doors busy, cocktail nights, themed dinners, holiday gatherings, and civic ceremonies that draw both longtime members and curious newcomers. There's plenty of parking, a relaxed atmosphere with no cover-charge chaos, and a crowd that actually talks to each other. Travelers passing through on Highway 99 frequently stop for RV parking and end up staying for dinner.

Beyond the social calendar, Lodge #1282 channels its energy into causes that matter: youth scholarships, veterans' support, and local charitable initiatives that carry the Elks' national mission into Modesto's own backyard. A 4.5-star rating across 126 reviews doesn't happen by accident. It happens because the people here show up, and they keep showing up.

"We travel the country and never have had a poor experience staying in our small van with our fellow Elks - until Modesto, CA. As always, I went in to "check in" and get guidance on where we should park. The ER welcomed me/us and I thought all was good. It was dark and pouring down rain and we got a phone call of an emergency from home, so we didn't "immediately" move our mini-van to our intended parking spot. Unbelievably, next thing we knew while on the phone was pounding SO HARD on our door that I thought it was going to break the glass. An extremely drunk man was berating us, yelling at the top of his lungs that we needed to vacate the property. I explained that we been given permission by the ER a few moments ago to spend the night. He continued to be aggressive and we actually feared for our safety. He was ultimately pulled away by others as they awkwardly tried to apologize for his behavior. My question, is this: How and WHY is this tolerated? This is not okay. We Elks are held to a higher standard. If anyone in our lodge #944 did this, they would no longer be an Elk. My spouse and I were extremely shaken by this incident."

Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
